The USA Soccer Roundup

The United States National team had an interesting week. They went to Mexico City to play the Mexican national team and promptly lost 2-1 in a game, which was not even that close. The United States only played with one forward in the first half which diminished their chances in scoring and putting more pressure on a weakened defense. The game was played at over 7,000 feet above sea level which could have hurt the United States fitness level but I always come back to the passive strategy employed by Bruce Arena. On Wednesday evening, the USA team hosted Guatemala and demolished them 2-0 in a game, which was absolutely dominated by Steve Ralston (New England Revolution) and Eddie Lewis (Preston North End). Both of these players attacked the wings well and had at least 5 great crosses to the forwards Eddie Johnson and Brian Ching.

In other news, Landon Donovan the previous poster boy of USA soccer has returned to the MLS after his second failed attempt with Bayer Leverkusen. (Top 16 club in the World). This is a bad move for Landon due to the level of the German League and the relative weak talent in the MLS. If you every get a chance watch a big time European soccer match and compare it with how slow the MLS is and the two leagues are not in comparison to each other.
